Established: Established in 1991

Overview

Eco Mark is India's environmental labelling scheme, established in 1991 by a resolution of the Government of India. It is issued by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) and administered and certified by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), India's national standardization body. It covers approximately 16 product categories, including food, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, electrical appliances, paper, lubricating oils, and packaging materials, helping consumers identify environmentally preferable products. Licenses are valid for a minimum of one year, and BIS has the authority to revoke certification if false declarations are discovered.
