SIRIM Eco-Labelling Scheme (Malaysia)

SIRIM QAS International (a certification body under the Department of Standards Malaysia) / Malaysia

Established: Requires further confirmation (establishment year not clearly stated in primary sources)

Overview

The SIRIM Eco-Labelling Scheme is recognized as Malaysia's National Eco-labelling Programme. It is operated by SIRIM QAS International and complies with ISO/IEC 17065 (general requirements for product certification bodies, accredited by the Department of Standards Malaysia) as well as ISO 14024 principles. It is a member of the Global Ecolabelling Network (GEN). It covers multiple product categories, including household appliances. Certification is generally voluntary, but in certain instances it is made mandatory by regulatory agencies such as the Energy Commission, the Fire and Rescue Department, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, the National Water Services Commission, and the Road Transport Department. The scheme is also linked to the government-led MyHIJAU Mark (a green procurement promotion initiative), with SIRIM Eco-Label certification supporting participation in government and private-sector green procurement programs. Certification can also be combined with SIRIM's Carbon Footprint mark (based on ISO 14067).
