[Regulatory Update] US SEC Formally Proposes Rescinding 2024 Climate-Related Disclosure Rules — Moving to 60-Day Public Comment
Source:U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)
On 29 May 2026, the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) formally proposed rescinding the climate-related disclosure rules it had adopted in March 2024. The SEC cites reasons including legal authority and disclosure costs in proposing the rescission.
This does not mean that "the climate-related disclosure rules have been rescinded". As of 29 May 2026, this remains a proposed rule, and the final action will be determined following a 60-day comment period after publication in the Federal Register.

This gives companies grounds to reassess response plans that had assumed the 2024 rule. US-listed companies and their suppliers need to manage multiple disclosure demands separately — not only the SEC rule but also state law, investor requirements and counterparty requirements; in regulatory news, it is critical for business practice to clearly distinguish between a "proposal to rescind" and an actual "decision to rescind".
