[Supply Chain] AGC Completes UL 2809 Third-Party Verification for the Fluorine Raw Materials in Its High-Performance Fluoroelastomer AFLAS™ FFKM
Source:AGC Inc. (news release, 29 May 2026)
In May 2026, AGC completed a third-party verification under UL 2809 for the fluorine raw materials used in AFLAS™ FFKM. The verification confirmed that, under credit management using the mass balance approach, 100% of the fluorine content allocated to the product can be managed as derived from recycled fluorspar.
Importantly, this does not mean the product as a whole is 100% recycled material. According to AGC, it is the fluorine portion that is managed as 100% derived from recycled material, and this is an allocation of environmental attributes under the mass balance approach.
Editor's View
For fluorinated materials, including PFAS, what matters is not only regulatory compliance but also how the origin and environmental attributes of raw materials can be demonstrated in a verifiable way. For high-performance material makers, third-party verification and the management of environmental attributes through the mass balance approach can become information management requirements in the supply chain alongside raw material switching. This case is therefore less a simple story of replacing fluoroelastomer with recycled material than an example of enabling the allocation of environmental attributes to a high-performance product by managing raw material attributes and supply chain data.
