[Corporate Targets] SBTi Publishes Corporate Net-Zero Standard Version 2.0 — From Target Setting to Implementation and Accountability

Source:Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)
On 11 June 2026, the SBTi published Version 2.0 of its Corporate Net-Zero Standard. The organisation positions V2.0 as a comprehensive framework for embedding corporate climate action into actual business operations, value chains and capital allocation. However, the SBTi is not a government regulator; its standard is a private standard for voluntary corporate target setting and validation. Companies with existing validated targets are not required to reset them immediately, and target setting under V2.0 is scheduled to begin on 1 February 2027.

Corporate decarbonisation targets are moving from long-term declarations to a stage where they must be connected to actual business, supply chain and investment decisions. Companies need not only to set SBTi targets but also to build implementation structures, including alignment with suppliers, investment and business plans. SBTi V2.0 is not regulation itself, but as a change in the private standard that underpins corporate climate target setting, it is worth tracking separately from regulation.
