Thai Green Label

Thailand Environment Institute (TEI), in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment / Thailand

Established: Initiated in October 1993; formally launched in August 1994

Overview

The Thai Green Label is Thailand's only ISO 14024-compliant Type I ecolabel. It was initiated in October 1993 by the Thailand Business Council for Sustainable Development (TBCSD) and formally launched in August 1994 by the Thailand Environment Institute (TEI) in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI), among other agencies. It operates as an impartial third-party certification scheme compliant with ISO/IEC 17065. Covering a wide range of products and services excluding food, beverages, and pharmaceuticals—including appliances, office supplies, construction equipment, automobiles, paper, clothing, furniture, and cleaning products and services—it has developed over 126 certification criteria and certified more than 8,000 product models (as of its 30th anniversary). On March 22, 2022, TEI signed a memorandum of understanding with Thailand's Pollution Control Department (PCD), establishing a mechanism to prioritize Thai Green Label-certified products and services in government procurement as part of Thailand's Green Public Procurement (GPP) initiative.
