[Industry Impact] EU Euro 7 Regulation begins partial application from November 2026 — extending scope beyond exhaust emissions to brake, tyre and battery durability

Source:European Parliament and Council of the European Union
The EU's Euro 7 Regulation entered into force on 28 May 2024, but it is not a regime that applies to all vehicles at once. Depending on vehicle type and the specific requirement, multiple application dates are set, including 29 November 2026, 29 November 2027 and 29 May 2028. Euro 7 is not confined to conventional exhaust-gas requirements. It also brings particles generated from vehicle brakes, tyre wear and battery durability within its regulatory scope, affecting not only vehicle manufacturers but also suppliers of components and materials such as brakes, tyres and batteries.

Euro 7 is better understood as a scheme that has broadened its scope from "engine exhaust-emission regulation" to "regulation of the environmental performance of the vehicle as a whole." Component manufacturers need to respond not only on traditional emissions-related parts but also on technical specifications, durability and data requirements for tyres, brakes and batteries; as the scope of regulation expands from part of a product to the product as a whole, the boundary of the supply chain expands with it.
